Public demographic context

U.S. County Demographics Explorer

Compare public county estimates for older-adult share and household income. Keep the source, definition, and uncertainty close to the map.

This is demographic context only—not a proxy for demand, eligibility, care use, quality, provider performance, or business performance.

Counties and independent county-equivalents are represented where supplied by the boundary source. Alaska and Hawaii are placed as insets for a practical national view.

Sources and method

Public data, carefully scoped

Estimates originate with the U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey (ACS) 5-year data and are loaded through Census Reporter’s public, no-key ACS API. The source response is CDN-cached, and the map first requests the 2024 ACS 5-year release before falling back to the 2023 ACS 5-year release if needed. The displayed release is shown with each selected county.

Read estimates as context, not a decision rule.

ACS figures are survey estimates and carry margins of error. Differences between counties may not be statistically meaningful without reviewing the associated uncertainty. They do not establish individual need, eligibility, service use, quality, or business results.

ACS estimates

Older-adult share uses ACS table B01001 estimates for residents age 65 and older divided by total population. Income uses table B19013 median household income.

County boundaries

The map uses the vetted public us-atlas counties-10m TopoJSON boundary artifact, cached by this site with a secondary public delivery source.

The public Census Reporter API response is CDN-cached and loaded in the browser with a prior-vintage fallback—without an API key or paid data service.
